Gorkha durbar

Gorkha is one of the famous district of Gandaki Pradesh by which Nepali are famous with the name of Brave Gurkhas .

Gorkha was founded by the Shah dynasty. Drabya Shah decided to establish a home and began ruling in 1560 A.D. Later, the place became popular during the reign of king Ram Shah (1604 – 1641 A.D.) who was known for his justice.

Nepal was divided into hundreds of small quarrying and bickering kingdoms. A young king from north, Prithivi Narayan Shah, changed all that. His vision led to a successful unification campaign, resulting in the formation of a strong country that stood against the East India Company. It is remarkable to note that the legendary Gurkha warriors are named after this very kingdom of Gorkha.

Some points of interests are the main Gorkha Durbar, Gorkahnath Cave and Upallokot. The main building is a complex of three units – a temple, a fort and a palace. Prominently located at the top of a hill, it provides a 360 degree view of the surroundings.

The second attraction, The Cave of Gorakhnath is in fact a temple of Gorakhnath. Nepalese kings pay their tribute here. A short walk up to Upllokot will bring you to a vantage point, that provides panoramic views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges.

Gorkha lies in the route of the classic Manaslu Circuit trekking. The people of Gorkha are friendly and warm – always extending their hospitality to outsiders.
