Three new domestic airports have been added in Nepal. The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has fixed the ‘ICAO Location Indicator’ for the airports constructed at Gulmi, Ilam and Okhaldhunga.
From Now, the Ilam-based Falgunand Kusilumba Airport will be identified by the ‘VNFN’ signal, according to the International Civil Aviation Organization. Gulmi’s Resunga Airport has now received the ‘VNRG’ sign in the language of aviation. Meanwhile, the Khiji Chandeshwari Airport constructed in Okhaldhunga has received the ‘VNKC’ code.
Earlier, the number of airports with the ICAO location indicator was 49. Now, the number of ICAO recognized airports in Nepal has reached 52. Nepal currently has an international airport. There are four internal hub airports (Pokhara, Bhairahawa, Nepalgunj, Biratnagar).
There are 26 domestic airports in operation. Eighteen airports are closed. These three additional airports are under construction. Test flights have already taken place on the dusty grounds of all three airports.
Work is underway to pitch the runway of the airport. According to CAAN, work is underway to prepare runways and taxiways at these airports under construction.
