Rampur (Palpa): Rani Mahal in Palpa, known as the Taj Mahal of Nepal, has been developed as a palace museum.
In the palace built by Khadga Shamsher, materials like, idols, conch shells used by him are kept. Mayor of Tansen Municipality Ashok Kumar Shahi said that sanitation, drinking water, electricity, internet, camera and other materials have been managed in the first phase.
Stating that the work started from Rs 1.5 million has already cost around Rs 3.5 to 4 million, Mayor Shahi said that the budget will be increased as the amount is not enough.
He said that an estimated budget of more than Rs. 100 million would be required for the complete development of Rani Mahal. In 1950 BS, late Khadga Shamsher, the commander-in-chief of Palpa Gowda, had built the Rani Mahal in memory of his late queen Tej Kumari.
The foundation stone was laid in 1950 BS and the palace was built on the rock of Kaligandaki in 1954 BS. Rani Mahal, located between Baugha Gumha of Tansen Municipality and Khanigaun Village of Baganaskali Municipality, is the first choice of the youth.
Rani Mahal, which is very important in terms of religion and tourism, is located at a distance of 13 kilometers from Tansen, the headquarters of Palpa.
Foreign tourists interested to visit this palace museum can reach here by taking a direct flight from Kathmandu to Bhairwa airport and taking vehicles to reach here.
